IN RESPONSE - POLITICAL ART FROM THE STREETS - A Collaborative Exhibition by VAN & SLIM
For One Week Only!
OPENING EVENT: Friday, NOV 29th, 6pm - 9pm.
Exhibition runs November 25th - December 1st, 2019.
YOU'RE INVITED TO CELEBRATE THIS UNIQUE DISPLAY OF RADICAL ART ON FRIDAY, NOV 29TH.
Where? No Vacancy Gallery, QV Building, Swanston St, Melbourne!

VAN and SLIM are two street artists based in Melbourne that have an agenda. And they don't wanna hide it. The global capitalist system and it's destructive tentacles (ie. War, Environmental Destruction, Exploitation, Racism, Sexism, Homophobia etc) are still part of our daily horrors, and these two urban fighters see their street art as helping build forces big enough to seriously give capitalism a shake up.

In taking some slices of their most recent and earlier street-based works, they decided to share their inspired and politically relevant work to established and newer audiences. They really hope you can come, cos, well, we simply have a world to win!

#TRUMPTANK TO VISIT BACK GALLERY by Van

“After Trump was elected, one of these paintings was digitally projected onto a building opposite Trump Towers in Chicago. I was inspired to paint more, combining Impressionism, sci-fi and scenes of revolution. I thought Off the Kerb would be a great place to exhibit these for the first time.”

Van is one of Australia’s most politically engaged artists. His street murals, sculpture, and conceptual art have featured in Red Flag, New York Times, CNN, Junkee, Buzzfeed, Overland, The Guardian, VICE and Hyperallergic. His first children’s book with author Maxine Beneba Clarke won the US-based 2019 Boston Globe - Horn Book Award.
